Technical SEO
Technical SEO is the work that lets search engines find, read, and index a website: crawlability, indexing, redirects, site speed, mobile behaviour, and structured data. It fixes the plumbing so content has a chance to rank.
Search engines can only rank what they can crawl and understand. Technical SEO covers that layer: whether pages are reachable and indexable, whether duplicates are consolidated with canonicals, whether redirects point where they should, and whether the site loads fast enough that neither users nor crawlers give up.
It is the most productive starting point on most small-business sites because the problems are concrete and fixable: a page blocked by accident, a redirect chain, a slow template, a missing canonical. None of it requires new content, and the gains unblock everything published afterwards.
The trap is treating it as a one-time checklist. Sites drift: plugins update, pages get added, redirects rot. Technical health is checked on a cadence, which is why our SEO engagements report on it monthly.
